Problem

  • Funds are required to be set up in Cheyutha Mahila Mart through women beneficiaries.
  • Women beneficiaries do not have adequate skills in marketing and Retail business.
  • The organisation of group activity in addition to individual livelihoods by women beneficiaries.
  • Sharing capital collection from the individual members.
  • Registration of the separate society as they are already in the Samakyas ( VOs/MSs).

Solution

  • All the women SHG members federated as a society in the Mandal and invested above Rs.200/- per member towards share capital. 
  • Training is conducted on the Board of Directors of Cheyutha Mahila Marts on marketing and business skills.
  • We are encouraging collective group activities to promote better livelihoods for financial sustainability.
  • Willing and qualified SHG women or their children are selected and trained with the help of Retail business trainers.
  • To promote more business, door delivery/ online booking, Festive offers, and free distribution of Eco-friendly carry bags.

Outcomes

  • Each mart was set up at the cost of around 25 lahk to 50 lakh rupees.
  • The Board of Directors formed different committees and effectively managed the assigned duties and responsibilities. 
  • They are getting 8% to 25% margins on all products by MNC companies.
  •  Collective business run by the women members.
  • Mart members get high margins on the products.

  • Organising the women members into separate Macs societies.

  • Registration of the Separate society as they are already in the Samakyas ( VOs/MSs)
  • Identification of the suppliers with reasonable cost and good quality.

Cheyutha Mahila Mart

The Andhra Pradesh state government has launched another initiative to provide quality essential commodities to the villagers at below market prices.

Problems

Women beneficiaries do not have adequate skills in marketing and Retail business. Organization of group activity in addition to individual livelihoods by women beneficiaries is lacking.

Solutions

All the women SHG members federated as a society in the mandal and invests above Rs.200/- per member towards share capital. Trainings are conducted to the Board of Directors of Cheyutha Mahila Marts on marketing and business skills.

Innovation

25 % to 30 % margins on local and SHG products and upto 50% margins are being provided on Plastic & Crockeries. Also more business, door delivery/ online booking, festive offers, free distribution of Eco friendly carry bags are being promoted.

Opportunities

Women society members are to establish Packing & Redribution (PRD) units in phase manner.

Summary

The Andhra Pradesh state government has launched another initiative to provide quality essential commodities to the villagers at below market prices. As part of this, Mahila Mart will be set up Mandal-wise by the members of the Mandal Mahila Samakhyas. The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) has decided to establish the Mahila marts in rural areas with the women self help groups.
