India’s First Indigenous Solarized Controlled Windrow Composting (SCWC) Plant

Rising wet waste generation (making up 50-60% of total waste) was increasing dependence on landfills, which reduced the lifespan of existing waste infrastructure.
Organic waste disposed of in landfills generates methane emissions and environmental pollution, undermining urban sustainability goals and contributing to climate change.
Traditional composting methods produced foul odors, generated leachate, created public nuisances, and resulted in inconsistent compost quality, limiting operational efficiency.
There was a lack of energy-efficient, scalable, and indigenous composting technologies tailored to Indian climatic conditions, leading to higher resource consumption and operational costs.
Valuable organic waste was being discarded rather than converted into high-quality compost, resulting in a loss of resources.

Approximately 20–25 tonnes per day (TPD) of wet waste was successfully diverted from landfills through scientific processing.
Sustainable waste management practices resulted in a reduction of nearly 200–250 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Over 600 tonnes of FCO-compliant compost were produced annually to support agriculture and urban greening initiatives.
The zero-liquid-discharge system achieved 100% leachate treatment and complete reuse of process water.
A successful, nationally replicable waste management model was established that seamlessly integrates renewable energy, automation, and circular economy principles.
