Contributing to the State’s Irrigation Water Security

Problem

  • Knowing the status of water availability in reservoirs, barrages and minor irrigation
  • Lack of availability of water to pump in short, medium and long term course 
  • Need to release water from reservoirs to meet the demands
  • Execution of cropping pattern in command area
  • Need for a unified database for water related information

Solution

  • Built database for water related data and installed IoT sensors to check water availability status 
  • Developed automatic AI/ML model to get satellite data
  • Remote sensing-based crop classification systems to detect crop coverage
  • Optimization model by reducing power consumption and deficits
  • Project level impact assessment models to measure the impact on different aspects 

Outcomes

  • First of its kind to build a system to manage water on a large scale
  • Developed lift irrigation scheme with technology to assess real time water availability 
  • Better operational mechanism with improved water efficiency 
  • Real time alerts and advisory dissemination on flood, reservoir releases and pump operations
  • Synchronous operation of lift irrigation pumps
