Development of Saline-Affected Areas
Problem
- Utilization of the unused barren/saline land for other agricultural activities does not take place.
- Diversification from traditional agriculture practices.
- Spreading awareness among the farmers.
- Diversifying them from traditional farming.
- Capacity building and know-how technology.
Solution
- Utilization of the saline land by the adoption of the white shrimp culture.
- Organizing awareness camps.
- Exposure visits of the farmers.
- The training was conducted at CIFE-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Lahli, Rohtak.
- The committee was formed at the Division level for the implementation of the scheme.
Outcomes
- Approx. 3000 area has been brought under shrimp culture.
- Approx. 5600 tonnes of shrimp has been produced.
- Utilized underground saline water.
- Nearly about 16 saline districts have been covered under the shrimp/fish culture.
- The net income of the farmers is approximately Rs.3.00 to 4.00 Lakh per acre.
