Project “Ananda Path”
Introduction
This particular project primarily focuses on designing a programme that seamlessly integrates with the existing school education, aiming to enhance and supplement the learning experience rather than causing interference.
Problems
Learning gap was witnessed among first-generation learners and those from socio-economically under privileged families. There was a lack of formal education amongst the parents/guardians leading to loss of supportive guidance for the child at home. Livelihood challenges for families particularly those from wage earners forces children out of education where income supporting child contributes to family income at the cost of its childhood. Lack of confidence leads to psychological pressure for children at school ambience with poor performances and resultant increased incidences of dropouts & child labour.
Solutions
Remedial educational support is imparted to children from class I – V from vulnerable & geographically isolated families though systematic and holistic learning absolutely free of cost beyond conventional school hours. Parents/guardians are guided to hand –hold or monitor the child’s home based learning. Impedimental learning factor/s of each child is identified for remedial address. Socio-economically such families are supported with advices and initiatives to lessen their respective economic stress/burden by availing them of different schematic financial/livelihood supports. To ensure sustainability and enhance the program’s effectiveness, local youths were trained on educational methodologies. This created a valuable local knowledge resource and empowered community members to actively contribute to the program’s implementation.
Outcomes
Supportive education without any curricular bindings enables children to overcome respective cognitive & relating challenges. Familiarising with the words to read and spell thoroughly after a four months’ session. After four months of continuous effort, students who do not even familiarise with the words now can read and spell thoroughly. Extra curriculum activities which earlier were not nurtured among the children are also being taken care of now.
Challenges
Designing a programme that does not interfere with school education, but rather enhances and supplements the same was a challenge. It was a daunting task to motivate the community to participate in the programme. It was also important to make the parents understand the need and the objective of the administration’s vision. Arranging and management of funds for the continuation of the programme posed as a challenge too.
Innovation
The implemented programme adopted a holistic approach, recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education for children. It seamlessly integrated academic learning with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including art and culture, promoting the overall development of the children. Additionally, a strong emphasis was placed on addressing the mental health needs of the children, with dedicated initiatives and resources allocated towards supporting their emotional well-being. In order to maximize the program’s impact, efforts were made to leverage other existing government schemes that aimed to improve livelihood and income opportunities for families. By aligning with these initiatives, the program aimed to provide comprehensive support to families, ensuring that the educational benefits reached beyond the classroom.
Opportunities
Through targeted interventions, personalized support & innovative teaching methodologies, the project successfully enhanced the children’s academic skills and knowledge. Thus, enabling them to excel in their studies.
Summary
This particular initiative motivates the community to actively participate in the programme. This project has recognized the power of collective involvement and the positive impact it can have on educational outcomes. By involving parents, teachers, and community members, this initiative aims to create a supportive network that nurtures and reinforces the children’s educational journey.
