Comprehensive Care and Support for Special Needs Children
Problem
- Many disabled children from rural areas are unable to access therapy due to the lack of accommodation facilities.
- Lack of necessary care can lead to problems such as seizures, headaches, or developmental delays in children.
- Children from economically weaker sections face challenges in accessing necessary therapies and treatments.
- The growing number of children requiring services at the Umang Centre puts pressure on resources and facilities.
- Need for doctors and therapists from outside the city highlights the shortage of local expertise and resources for disability treatment.
Solution
- Established the Umang Institute for comprehensive neurological and developmental care of differently-abled children.
- Increased consultations across neurology, psychology, audiology, early intervention, and genetics.
- Offered therapies at a significantly lower cost compared to major cities,
- Provided a broad spectrum of services and therapies to cater to different needs and improve overall development.
- Organized activities and events to enhance social integration and community for children.
Outcomes
- Significant progress in transforming special children to more normal developmental stages within a short period.
- Achieved a high success rate in improving outcomes for special children compared to other programs.
- Provided free medication to special children with support from district administration.
- Facilitated free UDID registration and Niramay Policy applications for special children’s parents.
- UMANG has 2150+ Neurological Consultations and follow up done till January 2023.
