Overwhelming Patient Loads: PGIMER Chandigarh experiences over 3 million outpatient visits annually, leading to immense strain on its healthcare resources, highlighting the urgent need for innovative patient management solutions.

Youth Engagement in Community Service: The initiative aims to actively involve youth as volunteers, addressing issues of social responsibility and motivating them to engage in meaningful community service rather than anti-social behaviors.

Enhancing Healthcare Efficiency: With limited immediate hiring options, Project Sarathi offers a volunteer-based solution to enhance operational efficiency at PGIMER, thereby improving patient support without the financial burden of new staff.

Addressing Healthcare Gaps: The project seeks to bridge the gap in non-clinical patient care, providing assistance in navigation, registration, and basic patient inquiries, which are critical in improving patient experiences in high-demand settings.

Fostering Compassionate Citizenship: The initiative nurtures empathy and responsibility among students, encouraging them to become compassionate members of society while also improving community health outcomes.

Achievements

Increased Patient Satisfaction: Approximately 80% of patients utilizing Sarathi services reported high satisfaction levels, with an average satisfaction score of 4.08 out of 5, indicating that the initiative effectively meets patients’ needs.

Reduced Waiting Times: Patients who used Sarathi services experienced an average wait time reduction from 4.2 hours to 2.8 hours, reflecting a significant improvement in patient navigation and queue management.

Effective Navigation Support: The initiative helped nearly 60% of patients navigate the OPD smoothly, particularly first-time visitors, contributing to a positive initial experience in the healthcare system.

Alleviation of Staff Workload: Feedback from hospital staff indicated a notable reduction in non-clinical workloads, allowing healthcare workers to focus on patient care, enhancing overall operational efficiency.

Scalability and Sustainability: Following its success at PGIMER, the Project Sarathi model gained traction, inspiring its implementation in over 700 hospitals nationwide,  emphasizing its scalable and sustainable impact on the healthcare system
