Digital API Platform
Problem
- The use of a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product for API integration and process automation imposed numerous limitations.
- Inability to fully leverage open industry standards and technologies, lack of cloud-native capabilities, and restricted support for open standard specifications.
- Adopting an API First design approach was also hindered, impeding parallel development of backend and frontend components.
- The COTS product incurred high costs for licensing and hardware, lacking built-in DevOps support.
- Heavily relied on external entities for feature enhancements, bug fixes, and addressing security vulnerabilities, resulting in dependencies and potential delays.
Solution
- Liberation from constraints of legacy platforms with monolithic architecture and moved to Cloud-Native and Open Standards.
- The API First Design approach uses Open Standards Specifications and provides freedom of deployment to give agility and scale on demand.
- Evangelised the use of agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices to improve software development and deployment processes.
- Enforced API Security and Data Governance by design to keep abreast of threat protection, unauthorised access and vulnerability policies.
- Inculcated a culture of self-learning and continuous learning in the team to upskill and embark on a journey of digital transformation
Outcomes
- A multitude of teams within the organisation enthusiastically embraced the implementation of Cloud Native APIs.
- Witnessed a remarkable reduction in operational, maintenance, and license costs, leading to enhanced financial efficiency.
- A triumphant migration endeavour was undertaken, transferring over 400 APIs from a commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) based product.
- This meticulous process resulted in the seamless integration of these APIs into our software ecosystem, fostering a harmonious and optimised technological landscape.
- The proactive adoption empowered the organisation to deliver innovative solutions while swiftly streamlining operational processes.

Case Study
Digital API Platform
The DigitalAPI Platform is an API-led integration platform, enabling rapid and scalable development of highly reliable, configurable and secure low-code cloud-native APIs. Built on a microservices foundation and event-driven architecture with best-in-class technologies, the platform incorporates cloud-native, open standard specifications, an API-first design approach and robust API management capabilities. This cutting-edge solution empowers everyone to build and manage secure, reliable & efficient cloud-native APIs with different styles of APIs (Web Service, REST, GraphQL, gRPC and Event Driven) with efficiency and agility, facilitating seamless integration and fostering innovation in the digital ecosystem.
Problem
Using a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product for API integration and process automation imposed numerous limitations. These included the inability to fully leverage open industry standards and technologies, a lack of cloud-native capabilities, and restricted support for open standard specifications and protocols. The huge challenge was to foster a mindset shift among developers, transitioning from visual programming to general programming paradigms. Furthermore, the COTS product incurred high costs for licensing and hardware, needing more built-in DevOps support.
Solution
The organisation curated an own-source low-code (with common libs and connectors) integration platform using designated technologies and specifications that enabled the utilisation of cloud-native enterprise integration capabilities. The DigitalAPI Platform offers boilerplate code for seamless service implementation, empowering developers to focus on business logic.
Outcome
Adopting the DigitalAPI Platform by multiple business units and component teams empowered the organisation to deliver innovative solutions while swiftly streamlining operational processes. Strategic plans are in place to introduce the DigitalAPI Platform as the Unified Integration Platform for automating the lifecycle of partners, customers and employees across industry verticals.
Regarding Return-on-Investment, the organisation witnessed a remarkable reduction in operational and maintenance costs and computing resources (reduction of approximately 30-40%), leading to enhanced financial efficiency. Moreover, a heightened developer experience was achieved, ensuring a more seamless and gratifying environment for
the creative minds behind our software solutions. A triumphant migration endeavour was undertaken, transferring over 400 APIs from a commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) based product without any impact of business continuity and consuming applications.
Summary
The DigitalAPI Platform is an exceptional open-source solution that drives an organisation’s digital transformation, enabling it to enter the market with unparalleled speed and agility. The platform provides multi-cloud and bare-metal deployment options with self-healing, automated scaling on demand and zero downtime.
