Case Study
Jio Orchestrator (Jio OC)
It is an effort to leverage technology to deliver innovative world-class product in Customer Order Lifecycle Management via different Order orchestration and Service Fulfilment components. This in-house solution, Jio OC (Jio Orchestrator), helps Jio deliver uninterrupted services by fulfilling the customer and service order. Jio OC has been engineered on the architecture principle of infinite scale that can fulfil many ever-growing customer/service orders.
Problem
An order management system that existed earlier was based on Monolithic Architecture. It had limited monitoring and scaling capability, higher maintenance and support costs and a high turnaround time to implement new features. Jio Orchestrator faced several performance issues, and critical incidents were reported, resulting in service unavailability, inefficient utilisation of hardware resources and inability to find RCA for service outages.
Solution
It judiciously created a resource pool by engaging skilled contractors and internal employees and established a dedicated governance team that diligently monitored advancements weekly. Jio future vision for digital transformation revolves around expanding its offerings, embracing emerging technologies, and leveraging digital solutions to drive innovation and growth.
Outcome
Identifying a problem statement and the opportunity value was thoughtfully carried out before developing this product. Impact was immediately observed in launching the workflow for 5G service order fulfillment.
Success of this initiative was measured on how efficiently the legacy systems were replaced without any downtime and how better was the performance of order execution before along with the control and agility of features deployed after that. Amongst other things, it led to 30% increase in throughput of the system; data retention capability for hourly, daily and yearly aggregation; and order concurrency for 100,000+ orders. TAT for feature delivery was reduced to 15-days per feature. Per Hour Order Delivery increased up to 50K orders per instance.
Summary
Jio OC was developed based on an open-source microservices architecture that empowered the operations team besides the basic order management capabilities. This solution also significantly reduces TTM (Time to Market) by introducing reusable components and easy configuration-based Order Decomposition and Order Validation.
