Customer Data Consent and Data Ownership Platform
Problem
- Need for a robust and secure platform that can handle large volumes of data, ensure data integrity, and protect against unauthorised access.
- Adhering to data protection regulations, such as GDPR, can be complex.
- Ensuring that the platform meets the legal requirements for obtaining and managing consent, as well as addressing cross-border data transfer issues.
- Lack of clear data governance practices and accountability for data handling.
- Ensuring data consent and ownership platforms can be complex, especially when dealing with diverse data sources, systems, and stakeholders.
Solution
- Built a homegrown 5G core which is now operational, serving 50+ million customers.
- Developed new innovative technologies to provide high-speed broadband connection to homes where the last mile cannot be fiberised.
- Provide platforms and Services that can accelerate the digitisation journey of companies using Cloud and on-premise offerings.
- Built cutting-edge Digital Media Streaming platforms like Jio Cinema which deliver high-quality content with innovative Digital nuances like camera angles, play along.
- Used Blockchain and Big Data Analytics to enable mobile applications and web applications to acquire explicit consent from the customer for any data generated.
Outcomes
- Customer will have full control of their data, and no one can use it without their explicit consent.
- This will empower the customer to convert the data they produce on a daily basis to an asset which can then be converted to cash by selling this to brands for commercial gain.
- It will help grow the business and not worry about corporations using their data without their consent for commercial gains and use more of the company’s products.
- Data Ownership empowers the customer to use the data they are sharing to be converted to an asset and monetise as and when required with their consent.
- It will also reduce the cost of acquiring customers, as this platform will increase Jio’s trust as a brand.

Case Study
Customer Data Consent and Data Ownership Platform
Data ownership and Consent platform is a system that allows individuals to have control over their personal data and decide how organisations use it. On the technology front it uses blockchain to create the consent docs, which will make it non-temperable and can be regulated for regulatory bodies. This platform will enable the enforcement policies of the GDPR (Europe), PDP (India) or CCPA (USA) to be used/applied for advantage of customers.
Problems
There was a need for a robust and secure platform that could handle large volumes of data, ensure data integrity, and protect against unauthorised access. Technical challenges did arise in terms of scalability, interoperability and data integration. Also, defining roles and responsibilities, implementing data management policies and monitoring compliance requires significant effort.
Solutions
The organisation built a homegrown 5G Core, high-speed broadband connection, and hi-tech IPL streaming and streaming platform, Jio Cinema, while taking care of data consent and ownership. JPL could only enable some of their operating company’s system of interaction to capture the customer’s consent to comply with PDP or GDPR regulations. There needed to be a way to empower customers to convert their data to cash.
Outcomes
Platform provides a custom application, which the customer can use to convert all the data they generate daily using applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and LinkedIn into insights and stored in a cloud vault, owned by him. The platform provides a robust scalable API which can be scaled for a concurrency of 100,000 plus and support a customer base of 600 million daily. This API is secure and can be integrated in any application (web or mobile) with ease.
5
0+ Million 5G customers have been acquired within 6 months of launch. During IPL, 300+ million customers subscribed to an immersing digital experience. A multimillion-dollar contract has been signed with NIC to manage their Network, Service and Security Operations using Data and Digital Platforms built by Jio Platforms. Jio aims to establish a robust 5G data usage infrastructure to enable faster speeds, lower latency, and support emerging technologies like the IoT, AR, and VR.
Summary
The organisation built an indigenous 5G Core for better customisation and control, efficient resource allocation, data privacy and compliance.
