- Provide tools to Revenue officers to check the authenticity of mineral transport.
- Provide highly trained AI & ML models with 95% illegal mining processing accuracy.
- The AI Model processes the image, checks whether it’s a mining vehicle carrying minerals, and gives the output.
- Automated Fine Challan, Panchnama, Notices and reminders to the vehicle owner

Project Name: Automated Toll Plaza Monitoring for illegal mineral transportation- District Administration, Ahmednagar
Introduction
With an increasing demand of minerals, the illegal mining activities has been increased at an enormous rate leading to Loss of Revenue, attack on Government officials etc. To stop such activities, District Administration of Ahmednagar has come up with a solution that prevents illegal transportation of mineral with AI based automation at Toll Plaza.
Problems
District administration was facing the problems:
- Tracking activity of vehicles incoming from neighbouring District.
- Restrict attack on Department officials.
- Loss of Revenue
- Reuse of same Transport Permit multiple times
- Illegal Transportation vehicles carrying minerals.
Solutions
This concept or project has been proven to work in Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra.
An AI based solution has been developed, comprising of Hardware / Software Technology emerging to build innovative solution for automated monitoring at toll plaza.
- Extensive Dashboard for real time analysis and decision-making.
- Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System: Highly accurate system capable of reading vehicle number plates without human intervention.
- The CCTV Camera captures photos of vehicles (Top and Front angles).
- The AI model processes the image, checks whether it’s a mining vehicle and carrying mineral or not and give the output. Highly trained AI model with a processing accuracy of 95%.
- Alerts and Notification: Send of Realtime alerts (Photos, Mineral type, Vehicle details etc) and vehicle tracking log to concerned Department officers for illegal mineral transportation and generation of online notices and panchnama against vehicle owner.
Outcomes
Using emerging solution and highly qualified AI model District administration can track all the vehicles crossing the toll plaza and restrict illegal mining transportation activities.

Challenges
There were many challenges during implementation. Challenges were not so easy to adopt new process in the industry. Major challenges involved during implementation.
• Identifying number plates of vehicles (Fancy/Coloured/Broken/Rusty etc).
• Capturing of high-quality images during night times for processing.
- Deep learning is a subset of AI that can automatically learn and improve functions by examining algorithms and 1000’s of images.
- Reducing manual intervention and safety of department officials
Innovation
State 1st AI based Automated Toll Plaza monitoring system to curb illegal mining transportation.
Opportunities
The cost-effective solution can be replicated easily on toll plazas, check post, etc across Maharashtra State and Nationwide.
