- IT tools were used for monitoring and making interesting.
- Regular interaction and visits by the Official from Block, Sub Division and Block level was made to the school.
Outcomes
- Improve literacy rate in the district which is among the lowest which will be known in days to come.
- Improved the quality of education by bringing about various pedagogical interventions.
- Improved the student’s attendance which is being followed regularly.
- Prevention of school dropout and early child marriage.

Introduction:
GYANALAY UTTAR DINAJPUR is an initiative taken by District Administration Uttar Dinajpur for holistic improvement of the quality of education by bringing about improvement in school infrastructure, pedagogical intervention, interactive class room etc. thereby creating a vibrant ecosystem for the students.
Problem:
The district has a very low literacy rate (59.1 %) as per Census 2011 which is among the lowest. Due to low literacy chances of school dropout and child marriages increase and inclusive education for CWSN and other students so as they all feel the same. Bring about qualitative change in school infrastructure for making it attractive and playful mood of teaching through TLM, pedagogical interventions, peer learning and interactive learning.
Solution:
Key areas were identified for bringing about the change and meeting was conducted with all stakeholders including PRI & ULB Members. Trainings were provided to the teachers for modern pedagogical lines and IT tools were used for monitoring and making interesting. Regular interaction and visits by the Official from Block, Sub Division and Block level was made to the school.
Challenges:
Static inertia among all stakeholders and aversion for change was a challenge. Convincing teachers for their participation and leadership was also a challenge. Another challenge that was faced during the execution of this project was arranging funds for the initiative and convincing various stakeholders. There were huge numbers of school with similar demands.
Innovation:
The initiative aimed to bring about qualitative change in the education ecosystem in the district. Improvement in education though has an overarching affect in the life of the incumbent and the society at large. Improvement of playground for sports and leisure facilities in the school. Installation of many avenues for joy games in the school. Improvement in physical infrastructure like Toilet, drinking water, Sanitary vending machine, Sanitary incinerator was carried out. Focus was given on improvement of social skills, increased class cooperation, problem solving and team bonding among the students by means of playful learning.
Outcomes:
Improve literacy rate in the district which is among the lowest which will be known in days to come and improved the quality of education by bringing about various pedagogical interventions. The student’s attendance which is being followed regularly was also improved. Prevention of school dropout and early child marriage as a result of this project. Participation of students in National level and State level games, debates, art competition etc.
Opportunities:
The project is very easy scalable as except infrastructure there is not much need of fund. The most important being the public acceptance of any initiative is the cornerstone for its success. Further the involvement of the Officers at various level and teachers makes it possible for execution.
Summary:
Major portion of the district populace are from the Scheduled Caste, Minority, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backwards Classes community. and the district has a very low literacy rates as per Census 2011 which is among the lowest. So, the focus of the district administration has been to bring about a paradigm change in the education ecosystem. The District administration is committed and steadfast to bring about sustainable, tangible and transformative outcomes through this initiative.
