Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project
Problem
- Irrigation to the Upland areas where traditional irrigation cannot be implemented.
- The department of Water resources in-coordination with department of Agriculture & Horticulture are creating awareness.
- The socio-economic conditions of the farmers in drought prone area will be improved to remarkable level.
- Opportunities for farmers to adopt Micro irrigation.
- Reduce global warming by increasing the green cover by agriculture, forestry & gardening.
Solution
- Field survey has been taken up for proper implementation of the Project.
- This Project is a Pressurized Under Ground Pipeline System where water will be lifted from Hirakud Reservoir.
- There are three numbers of Pump House constructed in the system.
- The water collected in the Sump of the intermediate Pump House will be again pumped through high capacity of pumps.
- The water then is supplied to the entire ayacut of 25600 Ha through Pumping from the Pump House at Kaanapali.
Outcomes
- On implementation of the Project, 25600 Ha of agricultural land will be irrigated both in Rabi & Kharif season.
- A total of about 35,600 farmers will be benefitted.
- The socio-economic conditions of the farmers in drought prone area will be improved to remarkable level.
- The net value of agricultural produce after irrigation will be Rs.47,509.24 lakhs.
- Generating higher income for the farmers from same land mass, generate sustainable employment.
