Damami Siddi Community Tourism

- The ecofriendly tourism is currently undeveloped in Uttara Kannada.
- The Siddi tribes encounter economic hardships with limited job diversity.
- Siddi tribes especially women face economic and social marginalization.
- Siddis face stereotypes and discrimination due to African ancestry which hinder their social integration.
Achievements
- The project promotes sustainable forest resource utilization, aligning with biodiversity preservation through nature- based tourism.
- Socio-economically, the initiative, led by women, uplift Siddis from a historically marginalized status.
- Culturally, the project preserves Siddi traditional knowledge, music, dance, and their unique “Damami” instrument.
- Enables and nurtures entrepreneurship, creating scope for small rural enterprises that can tag along the tourism value- chain.
