Enhancing the Health status of Mothers and Children
Problem
- Need to reduce the high prevalence of malnutrition in Haryana
- Poor nutritional and health status of children, pregnant and lactating mothers
- 25-35% of children suffer from the problem of being underweight and stunting, as per the CNNS report
- Availability of ready-to-serve food which has poor nutrition value.
- Presence of myth among rural masses that milk is available only in liquid form and can be stored for a few hours.
Solution
- Introduced a scheme based on partnership of public, cooperative, PRIs, community leaders and NGOs
- Provision of much-needed nutrients through additional food items
- Provision of 200 ml fortified skimmed milk in five flavors by the state government
- Distribution of fortified milk is distributed for 300 days a year
- Fortification of skimmed milk with Vitamin-A and D-3 as per Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)
Outcomes
- Reduction in the incidence of underweight cases and malnutrition in the community.
- Improving and strengthening the SNP provided to the beneficiaries
- Continuous changes in the recipes in AWCs keeping in view the need requirement of the beneficiaries
- Amelioration and improvement in important nutritional status indicators
- Improvement in the nutritional status of the children and mothers in coming months and years
