Development of Food Processing Clusters
Problem
- Excess production of Agriculture, Horticulture commodities and Fish in the State –
- Over supply leads to price drop – Distress for Farmers
- Limited Processing Capacity in the State for value addition
- Limited Industrial Infrastructure to set up food processing industries
- No value addition to the Crops – Limited bargaining power
Solution
- Special Food Processing Zones (SFPZs) – Planned for 10,000 acres and completed around 6700 acres with basic infrastructure –
- Around 1100 entrepreneurs come forward for setting up of Food Processing Industries
- Rs 72,000 Crores of investment & 90, 000 direct employment in these units
- All achieved in 24 months -Better price to the farmers ensured, value addition to the local produce and local employment created –
- Food Security to the Country and contribution to the State GSDP
Outcomes
- Initiated 13 SFPZ spread over 6336 acres
- Allotment of land to 1030 units.
- More than 1000 applications were received from across the state
- Addition of large processing capacity for paddy and other commodities in the state
- Large employment in the processing sector and better prices for farmers
