Development of Food Processing Clusters

Problem

  • Excess production of Agriculture, Horticulture commodities and Fish in the State –
  • Over supply leads to price drop – Distress for Farmers
  • Limited Processing Capacity in the State for value addition
  • Limited Industrial Infrastructure to set up food processing industries
  • No value addition to the Crops – Limited bargaining power

Solution

  • Special Food Processing Zones (SFPZs) – Planned for 10,000 acres and completed around 6700 acres with basic infrastructure –
  • Around 1100 entrepreneurs come forward for setting up of Food Processing Industries
  • Rs 72,000 Crores of investment & 90, 000 direct employment in these units
  • All achieved in 24 months -Better price to the farmers ensured, value addition to the local produce and local employment created –
  • Food Security to the Country and contribution to the State GSDP    

Outcomes

  • Initiated 13 SFPZ spread over 6336 acres 
  • Allotment of land to 1030 units.
  • More than 1000 applications were received from across the state
  • Addition of large processing capacity for paddy and other commodities in the state
  • Large employment in the processing sector and better prices for farmers
