Sustainable Livelihood for Forest Villages
Nomination
- Many people living in the forest villages had to go outside in the town area for work as daily menials.
- Lack of sustainable livelihood among the Tribal Population living around the fringes of the Forest areas.
- Need for ecological balance in the vulnerable areas.
- Presence of Human-Animal conflict and illegal activities in the forest areas like timber smuggling, poaching, etc.
Achievements
- Provision of training by experts on modern scientific lines for beekeeping under the due lens of block administration.
- Different government funds were dovetailed for procuring bee boxes.
- A district cooperative society named ‘Dooars Honey Alipurduar District Co-operative Society Ltd’ has been formed.
- Society fixes the rate of raw honey purchase rate of the selling price, lends money to the farmers for procurement of bee boxes and markets the bottled honey under their name.
